ROAM Humanitarian, Free A Girl, and Lemonaid created a very unique opportunity to educate the ROAMers about the issues surrounding trafficking in Nepal. A beautiful lunch was arranged with some of the survivors of trafficking who are now a part of the School of Justice. Upon the arrival of ROAM, we were warmly greeted with cards that were hand-drawn and written by the girls. When they gave us a card, they also gave us a scarf and a welcoming Namaste. What a way to be welcomed!
During the lunch, the girls presented a dance and a dramatic play. Both portrayed the struggles faced as a victim of trafficking. The girls were vulnerable and honest. They did an outstanding job with their choreography in the dance and their acting in the drama. There was not a dry eye in the room. Without understanding the language, the story was conveyed, and hearts were touched! The girls referred to themselves not as “victims”, but as CHANGE MAKERS! It was inspiring and hopeful.
A small market was set up to the side of the room where handmade goods could be purchased to support the girls. Many ROAMers were more than happy to participate generously.
As we were leaving, music started to play, and everyone connected through dance. ROAMers and survivors to Justin Bieber’s song, “Baby, Baby, Baby.” We all connected in a way that words cannot convey, but the genuine smiles and affection for each other will always be remembered.
Later that evening we shared a delicious meal with our new friends, the Change Makers, as well as the lovely Chari Maya (founder of Shakti Samuha Foundation, partner of Free a Girl). We had a wonderful time chatting, eating and taking selfies with all of our inspiring new friends.
